Greenhouse

We are going down state to get our greenhouse April 4-7th.  It will be a big job but it sounds like we have lots of great helpers.  It's going to take lots of power drills and patience.  We have to take the whole think down ourselves and of course, be as gentle as possible with the plastic.

I will have 1,920 square feet of plant growing heaven.  I'm giddy with anticipation.  I have wanted a greenhouse since I was a child.  Game on!

Flower CSA 2013

We are offering a wonderful flower share for 2013.  You will get 12 generous bouquets for 12 weeks this summer, starting mid June and going into mid September.  The share costs $180 for the 12 week season.

These bouquets will contain around 15 stems of flowers and filler from our gardens.  The flowers will be carefully harvested and arranged the evening before you get them for maximum freshness in your vase.

We are growing a huge variety of flowers and a riot of colors so these bouquets will be bright and different from week to week.

We are planning to be at the Sarah Hardy Farmers Market every Saturday so that will be the pick up point for your shares.  Other arrangements can be made if that is not compatible with your schedule.

Email us at perbellusfarm@yahoo.com if you have questions.  The member contract is under the page CSA 2013.

Things will only get better next year.  Our huge perennial selection will come into bloom in spring 2014!

Greenhouse Raising

We are just a week or two away from getting our first greenhouse.  It's a 20'x96' house.  More than enough room to grow all our seedlings and some veggies and flowers planted in the ground.  It will be nice to get the potting soil out of the house.

We will be having a "greenhouse raising" party in early to mid April.  Stay tuned for details.

Seeds and Snow

We have had a blizzard going on here for the last few days. We have over a foot of new snow on top of the foot we still had.  Meanwhile the house is filling with thousands of tiny seedlings.  Luckily we are only weeks away from acquiring our first greenhouse.

Here is what has sprouted so far:  Chantilly snapdragons, leeks, foxglove, dianthus, rudbeckia and delphiniums.

I also have a bunch of stuff in the fridge getting an artificial winters chill to help germination.

We have some big sowing dates coming up.  March 23, March 30, April 1, April 6, April 15, and May 1 are all big ones.  We also have lots of stuff that needs to be direct sown as soon as the soil can be worked, whenever the heck that is.  This snow is relentless.

We have massive plans for the farm.  Some trees are coming down.  A greenhouse is going up.  A shed to coop makeover.  A farm stand.  Farmers market.  Thousands of square feet of planting beds to prep.  Irrigation to set up.  And a wedding!

Our first seeds are up!

Two days after sowing them, the dianthus Amazon and Sweet series both popped up.  A few days later and the foxgloves are all sending down roots as well.

I now have a growing area in the cool basement and a growing area upstairs too.  It is going to be hectic in this house until we get our greenhouse.  We will certainly need it in a few weeks.

Supposedly we are going to get nearly a foot of snow later today.  I hope not!  Just when you think it is warming up.....
